Directions: Take Highway 70 E to intersection of Santa Gertrudis (between mile markers 159 and 160). Office is in chain link compound at northeast corner of intersection (three car shop is in compound with Office).

Primary Wildlife: Refuge supports a population of state-endangered desert bighorn sheep as well as mule deer, mountain lions, and golden eagles. Thirty eight species of mammals and 142 species of birds have been documented on the Refuge.

Habitat: Chihuahuan desert in lower elevations, to mountain shrub and pinon-juniper in higher elevations. There are several riparian corridors on the Refuge as well.

Recreation and Education: Refuge is located within the White Sands Missile Range and is closed to the public. Refuge staff provides environmental education programs upon request.

Special Note: Primary function of the San Andres NWR is to manage "for the conservation and development of natural wildlife resources" as per Executive Order 8646 dated January 22, 1941.
