Addicks and Barker Reservoirs
These normally dry reservoirs are on the west side of Houston on both sides of I-10 at TX 6. They contain the largest municipal park in the Nation and provide a unique recreational experience for the metropolitan area. They contain facilities for golf, hiking, picnicking, field sports, horseback riding, shooting ranges, model airplane flying, a velodrome and other activities.

Aquilla Lake
This 3,280-acre lake is located on Aquilla and Hackberry Creeks. From Hillsboro, 5 miles S on I-35, then 6 miles W on FM 310.

Bardwell Lake
Close to the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan areas. From Ennis, 4.5 miles S on county paved road and TX 34.

Belton Lake
Historical sites include the old "Charter Oak" on the Leon River, just below the dam, and the Stage Coach Inn in nearby Salado. From Belton, 3 miles N on TX 317, 1 mile NW on FM 2271.

Benbrook Lake
Nearby Fort Worth offers stock shows, indoor rodeo, and botanical gardens. From Benbrook, 1 mile S on US 377, 2.5 miles E on county road.

Canyon Lake
Area settled by early German immigrants. From New Braunfels, 15 miles NW on FM 306.

Cooper Lake
When complete, will impound the South Sulphur River in Delta and Hopkins Counties. From Cooper, 5 miles E on FM 154, then 4 miles S on FM 19.

Denison Dam (Lake Texoma)
The second most popular Corps lake in the country features Old Fort Washita, maintained as a museum by the Oklahoma Historical Society. A regional visitors center is planned for the lake. From Denison, 5 miles NW on TX 75A.

Lake Georgetown
Located 4 miles W of Georgetown via FM 2338, the lake is easily accessible from the Austin area. The dam impounds the San Gabriel River in the Hill Country of central Texas.

Granger Lake
The dam is located 7 miles E of Granger via FM 971 on the San Gabriel River.

Grapevine Lake
Several large "theme" amusement parks in the vicinity provide varied family entertainment. From Grapevine, 2 miles NE on TX 121.

Hords Creek Lake
Camp Colorado, a replica of a military outpost may be seen in nearby Coleman. From Coleman, 8 miles W on FM 53, then 2 miles S on county road.

Joe Pool Lake
This lake forms a 7,470-acre impoundment on Mountain Creek, SE of TX 360 and I-20. It is easily accessible from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Lake O' the Pines
Fishing is popular on this 19,780-acre lake. From Jefferson, 4 miles W on TX 49, continue on FM 729 and 726.

Lavon Lake
The Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary in nearby McKinney features natural history exhibits and nature trails. From Wylie, 3 miles E on TX 78,1 mile N on county road.

Lewisville Lake
Located 1/2 mile NE of downtown Lewisville. A 540-acre park includes a golf course among its facilities. At Lewisville, E of I-35E.

Navarro Mills Lake
Points of interest includes the ghost town of Dresden near Dawson. From Corsicana, 20 miles SW on TX 31, 1 mile N on FM 667.

Pat Mayse Lake
Visit nearby John C. Gambill Canada Goose Refuge. From Paris, 15 miles N on US 271, 3 miles W on FM 906.

Proctor Lake
Historic territory of the Comanche Indians. From Comanche, 5 miles E on US 377, 2 miles N on FM 2861.

Ray Roberts Lake
When completed it will impound 29,350 acres of water on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in Cooke, Denton and Grayson Counties in north Texas. From Sanger, 5 miles E on FM 455.

Sam Rayburn Dam & Reservoir
A 114,000-acre lake in the Big Thicket country of Texas, with native flora including orchids, insect-eating plants and scores of animal species. From Jasper, 15 miles NW on TX 63, then E on TX 255.

Somerville Lake
Nearby points of interest include Bluebonnet Trails, Independence Day Trek and Salt Grass Trek. From Somerville, 1 mile W of TX 36.

Stillhouse Hollow Lake
Visit Old Sommers Mill, built in 1866 and still in working order. From Belton, 5 miles SW on US 190, 4 miles left on FM 1670.

Town Bluff Dam (B.A. Steinhagen Lake)
Points of interest in this majestic "Big Thicket" region of Texas include four National Forests and an Indian Reservation. From Jasper, 15 miles W on US 190, 3 miles S on FM 92.

Truscott Brine Lake
Day use facilities only. Received 610 visitors last year.

Waco Lake
Points of interest include Cameron Park, fourth largest municipal park in the U.S., and the Nation's oldest suspension bridge (1870) still in operation. From Waco, 4 miles NW on FM 3051, then left for 1.5 miles on local road.

Whitney Lake
See the reconstructed Fort Graham, traces of the Old Chisholm Trail, and the dinosaur tracks at nearby Glen Rose. From Whitney, 5 miles SW on TX 22.

Wright Patman Lake
One of the largest lakes in Texas. Nearby Texarkana offers a variety of recreation opportunities. From Texarkana, 8 miles S on TX 59.
