B. Everett Jordan Dam and Reservoir
This 13,900-acre lake is located within a 45 minute drive from Raleigh and Durham. Boat launching, picnic, swim beach, and public marina facilities are available for public use. Recreation areas operated by agencies of the State of North Carolina. From Raleigh, 30 miles S on US 1. From Sanford, 15 miles N on US 1.
Cape Fear River Locks and Dams
Located in the tobacco country of eastern North Carolina on the improved channel between Wilmington and Fayetteville, the facilities are equipped for day-use, boating and picnicking. Shad fishing is popular, but swimming and camping are not Permitted.
Pool No. 1 -From Wilmington, 2 miles W on US 74-17, 16 miles W on US 74-76, then about 15 miles NW on NC 87, 1 mile NE on state road to lock.
Pool No. 2 -From Elizabethtown, about 1 mile SE on NC 87,1 mile NE on state road to lock.
William O. Huske Pool -From Fayetteville, about 17 miles S on NC 87.
Falls Lake
This 12,500-acre lake is located within a 30 minute drive from Raleigh and Durham. Boat launching, public marina, swim beach and picnic facilities are available. Other recreation facilities are operated by the North Carolina State Parks. From Durham, 25 miles E on NC 98.
John H. Kerr Reservoir
This 50,000-acre lake on the Virginia border is one of the largest manmade lakes in the southeast, noted for its record striped bass catches and camping facilities. Camp areas are operated by the Corps, the States of North Carolina and Virginia, and private concessionaires. From Raleigh, N on US 1 to I-85 then N to VA 4 (total about 70 ml).
W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir
Located in the heart of scenic country, with Moravian and Cascade Falls in the immediate vicinity and the Blue Ridge Parkway 28 miles away. This area has many historical and cultural attractions. Day-use facilities and modern camp sites are available for public use. From Winston-Salem, W on US 421 to Wilkesboro then 5 miles W on NC 268.
