PARKS
Shoshone National Forest
Camping
Shoshone's five ranger districts maintain 33 campgrounds within the park's 2,466,586 acres. Some sites offer access to lake fishing, boat ramps, and corrals. Shoshone National Forest campgrounds, which charge a fee, have pit toilets and drinking water. Campsites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and wherever possible are generously spaced. After Labor Day there may be no fee, but campers must provide their own water and trash disposal. Camping outside developed campgrounds is permitted, except where signed no camping, or along US. Highway 14/16/20 from Cody to the east entrance of Yellowstone National Park.
Wildlife on the Shoshone includes deer, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, grizzly and black bears, as well as numerous smaller animals, birds, and cold water fish. A grizzly bear special order is in effect for some campgrounds in the Shoshone National Forest. Please check the bulletin board at the campgrounds for current information.
