Turkey/Stevens Creek Hiking Trail
Long Cane Ranger District
his 20-mile linear hiking trail winds through the southeast-central part of the Long Cane Range
District. It follows parts of Wine, Turkey and Stevens Creeks. Numerous access points give a
choice of various lengths and durations of your visit. One portion of the trail is on private land.
Wine Creek is about 10 feet wide, has rocky bottoms and its pools are similar to those of more
mountainous areas. By contrast, Turkey and Stevens creeks are broad, slow moving and 40 to 80
feet wide. With occasional departures to climb ridges to view the creek bottom, the trail generally
follows the first flat area above the water.
Large hardwood trees with little undergrowth grow in the region, although in some other areas dense vegetation flourishes. Try your luck at fishing in Turkey and Stevens Creeks.
Nearby points of interest include the town of Edgefield, Lick Fork Lake Recreation Area, Cyper
