Hiking & Horseback Riding
Hiking opportunities range from short nature walks to longer back-country hikes. More than 800 miles of trail allow exploration of areas otherwise inaccessible.
Riding is usually done in the same areas as hiking since separate trails are not provided. Livestock can cause adverse impacts on the environment if animals are not handed properly. When stopping for more than a few minutes stock should be tied to a rope stretched between trees not directly to live trees. Stock tied directly to live trees for any length of time can damage the bark or roots and may kill the tree. Corrals are located at Gabaldon, KP Cienega and Strayhorse Campgrounds.
Contact district offices for more information on trails.
