Everglades, Florida

The only subtropical preserve in North America, the Everglades challenges visitors with its vast, grassy wetlands, hardwood hammocks and mangroves, and rich wildlife population, including numerous endangered species. Immensely flat and completely defined by water (the highest points are mere feet above sea level), the park's unique, delicate ecosystem requires constant vigilance in the face of surrounding development and land misuse.
With all that water, it's not surprising that fishing is one of the top activities in this park. Shore fishing is limited, but if you head into the watery recesses of the Everglades by boat, you can find an overwhelming variety of choices, both fresh and saltwater. Some common species to look fortarpon, snook (considered by many anglers to be the premier Everglades foe), Jack Crevalle, ladyfish, mangrove snapper, sea trout, reds, largemouth bass, and bluegill.
