On the Saxon Creek Trail

This technical ride is best done as a shuttle from the town of Meyers, but some cyclists like to make it an all-dayer by looping in Pioneer Trail and Armstrong Pass. The"Toad" has a fierce reputation for rock-chutes, but there are only a few nasty ones and they can be walked if necessary. Please don't skid your rear wheel. The last few miles of Saxon Creek Trail, aka the "Ewok Forest," is sheer joy on two wheels, with big, banked turns that transport you through the dense forest like a runaway monorail!

No one who rides Saxon Creek Trail ever forgets it. While in the Tahoe area, you should also try to ride the Great Flume Trail, which is technically in Nevada and just minutes across the border. The aerial views of Lake Tahoe from this craggy old water flume are truly spectacular. Even beginners can have a good time on the Flume.
