GORP Guests Wendy Shattil and Bob Rozinski - Observing and Photographing the Wildlife Among Us GORP Guests from August 30 to September 19
Bob Rozinski and Wendy Shattil |
Seeing a wild animal is breathtaking. It rejuvenates on a level we don't fully understand, yet we feel elated and that is enough. To see an eagle in flight is to feel a sense of wonder or at least a perception that perhaps we're not as superior as we think. Despite computer capability and technical advancement, we still have to board a plane to fly. We wouldn't have a clue how to migrate and who knows where to place the first twig when building a nest? Relating to a wild animal gives a sense of perspective. So begins the preface to Close to Home, a book of images by 34 photographers of Colorado's urban wildlife. Shattil and Rozinski coordinated the project, which is a treasury of the often surprising, always satisfying visions of wildlife that has found a way to hold forth in even the most built environments. Part of the fascination of Shattil and Rozinski's work is how it brings the wild into our daily life: the wild is not a place to venture out to, but to find in a vacant lot, an old cemetary, the roofline, or the forgotten open space at the edge of town..
Bob Rozinski and Wendy Shattil have worked together since 1981. They are well known among wildlife enthusiasts for workshops, lectures and environmental projects, as well as for their award winning camera work.Wendy was the first woman to win Grand Prize in the prestigious worldwide"Wildlife Photographer of the Year" competition conducted by the British Broadcasting Corporation's BBC Wildlife Magazine. The team has received the Conservationist of the Year and Business of the Year Award from the Colorado Wildlife Federation and they were appointed Research Associates for the Denver Museum of Natural History.
Wendy and Bob originated the Colorado Urban Wildlife Photo Club to guide photographers in generating photos for the book, Close to Home, and to create a forum for teaching an ethical and knowledgeable approach to wildlife among the increasing number of people who enjoy nature.Bob Rozinski and Wendy Shattil will be GORP's forum guests from August 30 to September 19. Join the discussion on observing and photographing wildlife, and how to preserve, rehabilitiate and treasure wildlife habitat.
