David Noland
David Noland has what many would consider a dream job. He travels to exotic places, meets interesting people, engages in a variety of adrenaline-inducing activities and then gets to write about it for the rest of us. But adventure travel writing isn't all a vacation— it requires stamina and keen attention to detail. These are both qualities David has demonstrated through the years, and his abilities have earned him a reputation as one of the foremost authorities on adventure travel around the world. He writes Outside Magazine's annual Trip Finder— a compilation of the world's 50 best outfitted treks and adventure trips— and he writes for a number of other nationally-recognized publications, including Conde Nast Traveler, Men's Journal, Sports Illustrated and Discover.

Travels Along the Edge is an anthology of David's stories that chronicle some of his favorite adventures across the globe. Sub-titled"40 Ultimate Trips for the Modern Nomad," the book describes outings as varied as climbing Mount Everest, rafting Chile's Futaleufu River, Sailing Turkey's Turquoise Coast, and biking across Vietnam. The book spans the seven continents, and rates each expedition in terms of its strenuousness, comfort, and required skills.David lives in a self-designed and -built house in the woods in New York's Hudson Valley with his wife Lisa and two-year-old daughter Callie.

David Noland was a GORP guest while we featured an excerpt from Travels Along the Edge on our home page. His answers are posted in the David Noland - Travels Along the Edge thread of GORP's Destination Forums.
