Meet the Wilderness Medicine Expert

GORP's Wilderness Medicine Expert, Dr. David Johnson, is a good man to have around when things take a turn for the worse. With 25 years of leadership and experience in outdoor medicine and backcountry rescue, he has become adept at applying his skills as an emergency physician to the demands and limitations of wilderness rescue. We at GORP.com are happy to have Dr. David Johnson dispense his sage advice on wilderness first-aid planning, preparation, and treatment.

More about Dr. Johnson
David Johnson, M.D., is president and medical director of Wilderness Medical Associates, the world's largest wilderness medicine training organization. His experience includes such exotic medical situations as teaching wilderness medicine and high angle rescue to the Bolivian Army and being the physician on the Sail for Peace and the Environment schooner, which sailed from New York to St. Petersburg, Russia.
Dr. Johnson lectures at numerous professional conferences, publishes in both professional and outdoor journals, and provides editorial critique for publications of such diverse groups as the National Ski Patrol and the Department of Transportation. He is an emergency physician with over 20 years experience, and is a graduate of Dartmouth and SUNY (Buffalo) Medical School.
When not teaching, lecturing, writing, or dealing with emergency patients, he spends his time sailing, rock climbing, and hiking.
